Fascial System is a relatively new term used to describe the connective tissue in our body, which provides us with our 3-D shape. In fact, if we had nothing but fascia, we'd still have our human shape!
And, we now know that it is entirely contiguous-- around every blood vessel, muscle fiber bundle, and every organ, including our brain. It is 90% water, but when not used or when under tension (e.g. muscle stiffness), it dries out and becomes sticky and eventually hard, which creates immobility. When it is moved, actively or passively, it hydrates itself by absorbing the surrounding fluids from within our body. The more varied the movement, more of the fascial system is moved, and the more hydrated the system becomes.
